The 15-year-old boy and his friends were exploring the "Wrath of the Lich King" expansion pack when he suffered what appeared to be an epileptic seizure, it was reported Monday.

"They played all day and all night. Maybe they got a few hours of sleep. They ate a little food and breakfast at their computers," the boy's father told the Kvällsposten newspaper in Sweden.

Doctors told the father that his son's bodily systems had been disrupted by a combination of sleep deprivation, lack of food and the prolonged period of concentration playing the game.

The teenager and six friends were reported to have gathered at his home in Laholm, western Sweden, on Saturday to play the updated version of the game, which went on sale Thursday. He collapsed at around 2 p.m. Sunday.

And this, folks, is why we have things called "parents" who enforce things called "rules" and "limits"... kids can't limit themselves (unless they've proven otherwise on a case-by-case basis). Oy gavolt, I can't believe a 15yo's parents would let him play nonstop for 24 hours with almost no sleep and almost no food.

And it means more negative press for the gaming community

Thats the kind of thing that gives gamers bad names, and the south park episode didnt help. I know people play alot but DAMN, 24 hours in a row? id be chasing the critters trying to get xp after that long.

Hopefully the main stream media will not blow this out of proportion.

Sadly it prolly will... because on youtube people already talk about that.. and they always exaggarate. But one guy stated clearly but funny that "if you're playing for excessively long time you need:
coca-cola
food
coffee
and if you can't say up for 24 hours playing a game.... you're a weak gamer" =F

Who of us hasn't neeb awake for "too long" playing a game? Retorical question =) But when a game beats you up, it's not the game, it's you. At least imo. Besides, that game is not That good =3
It should be a lesson for the (poor?) boy and other wannabes, that being a "real" gamer means something else but being the highest level and the fastest =)

Heh, guilty of that one. "Just one more level then I can go to bed... I can't stop now, I've almost beaten my old record... etc...

But yeah, can't say I've ever played any game, for 24 hours straight. I've had some marathon gaming sessions that lasted from when I got out of school till it was time for school the next day... so that's what, 14ish hours? But it really sucked going to school running on no sleep with pixels burned into my brain. I learnt my lesson pretty quickly that I need to at least give myself a 3 hour nap :P

being a real gamer means having skill, not spending 24 hours straight on a game. This kid must have absolutely no life, i mean i enjoy games but thats a hell of a long time to be on a game
